I like games. Who doesn’t? I like Halloween. (Really?! Me, too). So, what are the best games? Why, the ones that are both, of course. There aren’t many games involving Halloween related themes, like Labyrinth or Munchkin Quest, (depending on how far out of scope you want to venture). This game may be a little outside of the box, but it does have elements that some might consider Halloween-related: it has a wizard, and it involves changing your persona, aka, dressing up. Oh, it also has a magic bag that items get put into. So, Trick or Treat!
Setup is simple: everyone gets a level counter, a colored place marker, a set of the same colored gems, and a handful of cards. Set out the class cards and a card draw pile, and place all of the elemental tokens into the magic bag. You’re done and ready to play.
The goal of the game is even simpler: be the Wizard class when you draw your own gem from the bag. That’s all. Of course, the strategy to getting your gems into the bag to be able to draw them out is a little more complicated, and that’s where the fun comes in.
For the game play, players take turns donning one of 7 classes, each with it’s own set of instructions. Simply follow the instructions on the card every round. Rinse and repeat. The rub, here, is that you can’t choose a class that has already been chosen in that round. So, if someone beats you to the wizard, you could, potentially, lose the game.
The Wizard Always Wins is a short, uncomplicated game that just about anyone can play. My 6-year old, whom also loves games, enjoys it. I’m sure you will, too. If you can find this game, it’s a decent addition to your Halloween/gaming repertoire. I’ve, certainly, gotten and played worse games in my life. As far as games go, I would give this 7 🎃🎃🎃 out of 10. As far as Halloween goes, I would give the game 4 🎃🎃🎃 out of 10. Still, I’m not sorry I got it, and I’ll keep it out of the charity pile.
