The countdown begins! Cue the Europe song. Well, that’s according to the counter on the side. That thing merely counts down to Halloween night, (Oiche Shamhna), which is cool, but for those whom truly appreciate the season, it actually starts much sooner. I suppose it would also depend on where you are. I start jumping for joy around the middle of September.
Up here in New England, and even further up in some parts, the leaves start changing in early to mid-September. That means the fun starts in about 55 days. Can’t wait! So, if anyone wants to come and visit, you can get a nice helping of Fall, (Fomhair), before the rush. Of course, the leaves start turning in the more northern areas of Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine, not to mention some parts of Canada. Bring your passport… and maybe some flannel!
You can never start too soon or have too much color. I start putting up the fall stuff as soon as I see that summer is waning, (bye, Felicia). It’s also a good thing to do if you live outside of New England or if are traveling at that time of year, as I, sometimes, do. I usually put up some pumpkins, leaves, and cornstalks for the last week or two or September before transitioning to the darker colors when October breaks. For me, Fall lasts from the moment summer ends until Thanksgiving weekend, when, for most people, Xmas begins.
If you’re a Do-It-Yourself type of person, like me, now is the time to get started on those creepy haunted houses, the scary, homemade decorations, and those spooky, blood-curdling disguises. I don’t know about you, but I love the original stuff. Some things just shouldn’t be “one size fits all”.
So, finalize your plans. Get that camera ready, and start psyching yourself up. In less than two months, the fun begins. You don’t want to miss out. Fall is the only season that doesn’t happen year ’round anywhere on Earth, (it figures). Even the big Halloween places start opening their doors at the end of summer. Let the memes begin!
