How Good Is The Instant Pot?

May 18, 2018 by Scarecrow Leave a Comment

Now, I know what you’re probably thinking, “How does the Instant Pot have anything to do with Halloween?”   You’re right… mostly.   It can be used to cook just about anything, even Fall and Halloween-related dishes, (Aha!).   I’ve already mentioned, on a few separate occasions, that I used the Instant Pot for making things, like boiling Halloween Eggs or making Strawberry Jam.   So, I thought it would be a good idea to give the device a little bit more coverage.
So, for me, boiling eggs is difficult, simply because I never know when they’re done.   Obviously, you don’t want to under cook them and you don’t want to over cook them.   With the Instant Pot, I can cook them just right.   There isn’t a set button for boiling eggs, as there is for other things, but there is a timer.   So, I can turn it on and walk away.   Aside from eggs, there are set buttons for the normal stuff, like meat, poultry, rice, and yogurt.   Yes, it makes yogurt.
Another thing I like about this machine is that it, essentially, steams everything, except for soups and stews.   Steaming is one of the healthiest ways to cook food.   It, also, keeps the food from drying out.
There are only a couple of small problems I have with the unit: cleaning and cooking things like rice.   To clean the unit, you need to clean the metal pot, and the inside of the lid which is easy, but you, also, need to clean the silicone ring, which is a pain.   If you don’t clean it regularly, it stops sealing correctly and it starts to grow bad things.   Some have suggested running the machine with a mixture of vinegar or water and lemon to clean it easily.   I have yet to try that.
For the rice issue, the metal pot is domed slightly, and, as such, any kind of oil you use to “grease” it ends up sliding to the edges of the pot, making the rice stick to the bottom of the pot.   There’s probably something that can be done to fix this or something that I’m doing wrong, I’m sure.
All in all, it’s still a great appliance.   I use it almost every day.   It’s well worth the money.   It makes cooking much easier, especially for those “dump” recipes, and your significant other will really be impressed at your dinner cooking skills.   Go out and get yourself one right now, or go here.
